Pupils at primary schools in Greater Manchester, Lincolnshire and West Yorkshire have been busy designing posters in a campaign to raise awareness of the Batteries Regulations in a competition launched by eBatt, Repic’s battery compliance scheme.
The winning design by Amina Hussein of St Mary’s C of E Primary School in Moss Side will be used at local battery collection points to show people the importance of recycling their old batteries. 7 year old Amina impressed the judges with her colourful design with the message “Don’t bin batteries, time is ticking” Amina’s fantastic design won her gardening vouchers to create an outdoor area at her school.
The Batteries Regulations came into force in 2008 and seeks to reduce the number of batteries that go to landfill. The Regulations aim to encourage the separate collection, treatment and recycling of waste batteries.
