REPIC responded to the announcement of the WEEE Regulations Consultation by issuing in the following press statement… “REPIC is delighted that the consultation document and proposed amendments to the UK WEEE Regulations, received today from BERR, totally outlaw the speculators model and the retrospective trading of mass evidence volumes that have blighted the UK implementation to date. In advance of the consultation release, REPIC wrote to its members and received a 100% positive response for the schemes compliance for the 2010 period. This enables REPIC to establish advance contracts before the July 2009 deadline for the 2010 compliance period and beyond. The proposed evidence changes will benefit the WEEE system as a whole and particularly AATFs through simplified evidence generation and streamlining the flow of cash to AATFs. The review of the code of practice will further improve and clarify the partnerships between local authorities, operators of DCFs and PCSs and the proposed continuation of DTS funding for DCFs should strengthen the WEEE collection system, increase separate collection of WEEE and raise public awareness. Where DCFs transfer to REPIC, the company offers to maintain existing site services, arrangements for scrap, contractors, treatment partners and reuse partners if the local authority wishes, to ensure there is an invisible transition as balanced WEEE collections are developed. REPIC also offers a PR fund for local WEEE promotional activities.” |
